President Class of 2011 Major: Statistics Minor: Math; Theater Hometown: Rocklin, CA Voice Part: Bass
Hi! Thanks for checking in, please step into my office. My name is Richie Ferris, short for Richard Ferris, long for Dick Wheel, and I like to talk in the first person. Bruin Harmony calls me "Smackers" because I have big lips. Get over it. I also like to be known as "the rumbling from the west"...nobody has ever called me it, but I just now thought of it and I want to make it a permanent title! I like numbers, that is why I am a math major; however, I am learning math isn't about numbers here at UCLA...oh well, it's just my life right? No sweat! So when I'm not calculating Jacobians and eigenvalues or working on my James Earl Jones and Carol Channing impressions, I enjoy performing. This is why I am a theatre minor. Although I have compiled a vast background in theatre and musical theatre, I have found most success in shaking the earth with the lowest bass notes imaginable!! So I have nestled into a comfy home in Bruin Harmony. Finishing up my second year in the group now, I am excited to have two more great years in store. With many great ideas and plans in store, I am excited to act as president of the group. So, if you want to hire Bruin Harmony, compliment Bruin Harmony, or hire a voice-over actor, contact me!

John He
Music Director Class of 2011 Major: Physiological Science Hometown: San Francisco, CA Voice Part: Tenor II/Vocal Percussion
John is a proud San Francisco native who misses home everyday. He is a third year Physiological Science major, though sometimes it seems like Bruin Harmony is his other major. Between arranging music, leading rehearsal, and recording Bruin Harmony's upcoming album, John also volunteers at the UCLA Medical Center, where he works with the Department of Pediatrics residency program at the David Geffen School of Medicine. In his spare time, he also works for UCLA Recreation, lifting heavy objects and repairing broken machinery. John would love a chance to go to medical school some day, but it seems like an uphill battle finding time to study. He wouldn't trade any of it for the world though. |
Dane Nightingale

Business Manager Class of 2010 Major: International Development Studies, Spanish Hometown: Ventura, CA; Honolulu, HI; Riverside, CA; San Juan Capistrano, CA Voice Part: Tenor II
Dane Nightingale is happy to be in his fourth year with Bruin Harmony and is shaking hands and kissing babies all the way. While it is true that Dane’s natural distaste for a cappella is ironic, his love for the crazy antics and occasional singing bouts of Bruin Harmony knows no limits. Known by some as one of the "Essential Baritone": parts, Dane has a knack for writing the best songs in the group… and only getting to sing the creepiest ones too! He loves his fans, he loves UCLA, and he can’t wait to see you at Bruin Harmony’s next show.

Anh Nguyen
Assistant Music Director Class of 2011 Major: Physics, Political Science Hometown: Irvine, CA Voice Part: Tenor I
Anh is very excited to be going into his third year as a member of Bruin Harmony. From his first days as a vocalist in Bruin Harmony to his current days as assistant music director, he has been breaking hearts and taking names with his cackling solos and rusty trumpets. He’s from Irvine, where at age five, he start playing piano and eating rice. At Mater Dei High School, Anh sang in the Chamber Singers for three glorious years, affording him the opportunity to travel to Italy with his choir to sing for the Pope. A second-year Physics and Political Science major at UCLA, Anh likes to spend his free time chilling with his "brahs" in Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, "hobo-ing" it up in Club Kerckhoff Coffee House, writing songs on the "ivory soundboard", writing notes to "merry maidens" signed George Bush, running "in" USAC elections, screaming "Cinderella", and "schmoodley-bopping" (among many other things, of course). Don't take this guy lightly though, because he might just be DANGERous. |

Stephen, or "StephAn" as he is commonly known in Bruin Harmony, is a fourth year International Development Studies major. Joining as a freshman and being a founding member, Bruin Harmony has been a defining part of his college career. He remembers when reactions were, "you're in Bruin what?" and cannot believe the progress this group has made in three years. When not singing, Stephen is active in his fraternity, UCLA UniCamp, as well as Mentorship at UCLA. He knows this year is going to be even bigger and better for this group and can't wait!

Dennis Sambolin

Webmaster/Historian Class of 2011 Major: MIMG Hometown: Palmdale, CA Voice Part: Tenor I
Dennis, Bruin Harmony's hottest Mexican, is a third year majoring in MIMG (Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics, for all the biologically impaired). His voice has made him a favorite with Bruin Harmony fans, but his ‘hawk has made him a campus celebrity. Originally from The Middle of Nowhere, Southern California, he has adjusted to life in the real part of SoCal. Dennis has been singing all his life, making all the guys (and some of the ladies) swoon with his magical music-making. He’s appeared at the Walt Disney Concert Hall as part of the Fifteenth Annual High School Choir Festival, and also in Royce Hall with the UCLA Chorale. When he's not avoiding la migra, Dennis enjoys eating burritos, cleaning restrooms, and taking jobs away from real Americans. In the future, he plans on going to medical school and becoming a doctor. He has enjoyed his first full year in Bruin Harmony, and is looking forward to spending his next two years with this bombastic bunch of Bruins!!

Nick Tubbs
Class of 2010 Major: Theater Hometown: Petaluma, CA Voice Part: Tenor II
Nick is a fourth year originally hailing from the sun-soaked vineyards of Sonoma County. He will be receiving a highly practical degree in Theater which he plans on using to speed up the female birth process and save America from its current recession. He enjoys puppies, Mr. Noodle, and oxygen. Honestly, Nick has been truly blessed to sing with such an amazing group of guys and is really grateful for the opportunity to do so. If you see Nick aimlessly roaming around North Campus or trying to get a free beverage from Kerckhoff, don't be shy, say hello. He loves meeting new people almost as much as he loves scaring them.

David Crane
Class of 2012 Major: Theater Hometown: Berkeley, CA Voice Part: Baritone
Half Asian, half white, half frat, half theater, David Crane is all the members of Bruin Harmony (except Dennis) rolled into one. He’s currently enjoying the live fast, die young world of UCLA A Cappella. A 2nd Year, he enjoys ALL forms of performance. Yes, miming, you too.

Ben Davies
Class of 2012 Major: English Hometown: Bristol, England Voice Part: Tenor I
Ben is a second year English major who moved from Bristol, England when he was the tender age of 13. Although he doesn't talk in an accent all the time, he may do it on request, if you're nice! Ben enjoys swimming, body surfing, and playing with his mini Australian Shepherd, Boots. He sang with fellow Bruin Harmony member Anh Nguyen in the Mater Dei High School Chamber Singers and was fortunate enough to travel with them to Italy and sing in the Sistene Chapel. Around campus, if not singing with the gentlemen of Bruin Harmony, you may see Ben out on the rugby field or hanging out with his brothers of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. In the future he would like to be a sports journalist, an author, or, of course, a musician or lyricist. Ben loves meeting new people, so if you see him, say hi and you can be friends!

Kevin Chui
Class of 2011 Major: Electrical Engineering Hometown: San Francisco, CA Voice Part: Bass
Chui, the lone engineering major in the group, is one of the newest members of Bruin Harmony. With 10 years as a clarinetist, and over 15 years of experience singing in the shower, he feels more than ready to throw down a bass line with the best a cappella group at UCLA. In addition to music, Chui also enjoys watching football and eating steak.

Burke Walton
Class of 2011 Major: Musical Theater Hometown: Denver, CO Voice Part: Baritone
Originally from Denver, Colorado, Burke is proud to be a new member of Bruin Harmony. Burke enjoys walks on the beach and skiing in the mountains of his native land. Around the Denver/LA area Burke has performed in over 30 professional musicals. In addition, he sang the National Anthem solo at both a Colorado Rockies and Boston Celtics game. Around campus you may see him as co-philanthropy chair of the SAE fraternity or promoting Bruin Woods, where he worked as Athletic Director this past summer. In the future, Burke would love to pursue sports broadcasting or the not so affluent career of theater. He looks forward to this year and wants to remind you all of his motto: "when the going get's tough, the tough sing."

Andrew Olsen
Class of 2013 Major: Global Studies Hometown: Lexington, MA Voice Part: Bass
Andrew Olsen, despite his prodigious height, sometime beard, and mellow, ambrosia-like speaking voice, is but a young lad in his first year on campus. Like a beast out of the frozen north he has come, exhibiting strange and exotic talents, including, but not limited to, two distinct styles of throat singing. He also manifests an eerie knowledge of useless subjects. Coincidence? I think not.
This year, at UCLA, he is playing viola in the Philharmonia, singing in the Chorale, learning Swahili, and discovering the origins of life and universe.
Other interests of his include making babies smile, helping blind people cross streets, and always leaving a penny in the take-a-penny-leave-a-penny jar.

Kevin Hong
Class of 2013 Major: Business/Economics Hometown: Moraga, CA; Mountain View, CA Voice Part: Bass
Hailing from the bay, Kevin is a first-year and hella proud of it. Within Bruin Harmony Kevin is a bass, you know them boys with the cojones. Anyway, removing the third-person persona, I like to watch sunsets and take long walks on the beach-SCRATCH-naw, I like playing ball, banging the drums and whatnot. Right now I’m trying to learn to play guitar, bass, piano, and opening up some time for football, though I got the build of a chopstick. I like chilling with friends and talk about random crap (or not talk at all) or just jam with a full set or just wing it with a cappella with a couple friends. And I’ve got four years of choir and a heck of a lot of random singing with my buds at church.
And oh yeah, I actually do like sunsets and beaches, though I don’t know about the long walks...
